Compass On-Demand Remote Desktop Webpage Generates an XSLT Warning or Error Message

Compass On-Demand subscribers that use the Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Web Access portal (RD Web) will receive a warning or error message from the RD Web portal.

Actions to Take:

Notify your Information Technology department to review the corrective actions below.

Issue:

Users of the latest versions of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers are currently receiving a warning message when accessing the RD Web portal.?Chrome and Edge users will receive an error message and be unable to access the RD Web Portal starting November 17, 2026. ?Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari users are currently not impacted.

This site uses XSLT; that functionality is being removed from this browser very soon. When that happens, this page will likely no longer display correctly. You might be able to install a browser extension that allows you to continue viewing it. Otherwise, you should contact the maintainer of the site for further information.

RD Web uses eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT), which is in the process of being disabled by Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Industry-wide, browsers are moving away from XSLT as part of a global web security hardening effort.

It was announced by the International Standards Organization (ISO) in October 2026 that "Google and Microsoft have announced that they will remove the XSLT software from their Chrome and Edge web browsers when version 158 is released on 17th November 2026. Mozilla are planning to remove XSLT from their Firefox browser in August 2027. Apple are planning to remove XSLT from their Safari browser, but they have not announced a date."

Impact:

Subscribers that use desktop shortcuts (.RDP files) to access Compass are not impacted.

Subscribers that access Compass using the RD Web Portal are impacted. Users of newer versions of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers will receive a warning message now and then an error message starting November 17, 2026. Mozilla Firefox users will not be impacted until August 2027. Apple Safari user impact is unknown but next expected soon.

Essent Service Impact:

Compass On-Demand itself is not impacted nor is security compromised. Users that connect via RD Web may need to use an alternate browser for access until Microsoft corrects the situation.

Corrective Action:

Switch to Firefox or Safari to continue accessing the RD Web Portal without interruption.
Essent is currently working on solutions to ensure uninterrupted access to the RD Web Portal for users and will notify users when a resolution to this issue has been implemented.

According to Microsoft: "Microsoft is working on a fix for this issue and will provide more information when it is available."
