Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, home to the Essent headquarters, has one of the fastest growing economies in the Northeast United States, according to a recent study.
Essent contributed to the Lehigh Valley's growth by building a new $2.5 million research and development center to serve as its state-of-the-art headquarters.
The Lehigh Valley joined Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and New York as the fastest growing regions in the Northeast. The Valley – the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, and their surrounding areas – also ranked in the top 5 fastest-growing regions with fewer than 1 million people.
"The economic renaissance of the Lehigh Valley and its cities continues at a remarkable pace,” Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation President & CEO Don Cunningham told the Morning Call newspaper.
To WFMZ-TV, Cunningham added, "Employers want to be where there's growth, success begets success … so we kind of suspected something really great was happening but this is nice to see it confirmed."
The study published in Site Selection magazine measured growth based on new and expanding economic development projects. The 65-year-old Site Selection magazine is the senior publication in the corporate real estate and economic development fields.
